PROBLEM: Computer takes ages to boot up, and runs slowly.
Clean your PC by following the simple steps in computer maintenance.
Check your installed RAM (Random Access Memory). I recommend minimum 512MB, ideally 1GB or more. You can scan your computer here. RAM is easy to install with due care, YouTube even has demo videos. If you need further help on how to install memory, email me.
System-wide security software can use up lots of computer power. Check you are using only one security program and that it is up to date and working properly. Multiple scanning engines and firewalls can seriously slow down your computer. I only use AVG Free Antivirus, Windows Defender & the Firewall provided by my router and have never had any problems.
Check 'Startup' folder in the 'all programs' list and remove unnecessary programs. You can also check background programs that load at boot time by going to START > RUN > then type 'msconfig' and 'OK'. Under the Startup tab, you can safely uncheck many processes such as third-party sofware updaters and monitors. Check the purpose of individual processes here.
A slow computer could be running at it's best and still be slow by today's standards if it's an old computer ready for replacement. Remember to back-up and archive your valuable documents, photos, emails and data to discs regularly. Reduces risk of loss, and saves disc space. Once you've tidied up your PC, run the clean up process again.
